I have wanted to organise a styled photoshoot at The Lancrigg ever since I photographed Pippa and Phillip’s wedding there the previous November. The Lancrigg is a traditional Lake District hotel situated in 30 acres of gardens and woodlands on the edge of Grasmere, in the Easdale valley. The hotel oozes character and charm and with endless countryside and woodlands outside there are countless options for a wedding photographer.
We were able to plan and organise the photoshoot in early March just before the events of 2020 started to take their toll and empty our diaries for the season. Even so, with an amazing group of local wedding suppliers it felt like we could pretend that the world was normal for a few hours.
As a wedding photographer I was to take charge of the photography on the day. I also took care of our bride’s makeup for the photoshoot too.
The theme was Unconventional Wedding and we wanted to move away from doing anything too traditional and explore some of the more alternative aspects of what a wedding could be. We settled on a green and gold colour scheme with matching flowers and styling too. As well as adding a tactile element to the props, wedding cake to add something extra to the photoshoot.
The wedding dress for the photoshoot were supplied by Eden Wedding Boutique from Penrith and the suits were supplied by A Family Affair from Kendal. Multiple dress and suit options were decided on, including some of bride and groom models on clothing, so that we could play around with different styles, and to broaden appeal. We wanted to showcase dresses and suits that complimented the theme and the environment at The Lancrigg.
The weather on the day was cold, wet and windy, the Lake District certainly gave us it all from it’s unique climate. Our models, Louise and Thom, were absolute troopers which meant that we could get some amazing photos inside and out.
The vintage props and venue styling were supplied by Janet from Wilde and Romantic. The amazingly decorated wedding cake was expertly created by Sally from The Yummy Pudding Company. All of the flowers and floral decorations were put together by Michelle from Ferns and Blooms Florist. All of these elements were beautifully curated by our team to give me plenty of detail to photograph along with our two models. After all a wedding photographer doesn’t just spend their time photographing the happy couple!
There are many interesting features throughout the grounds of Lancrigg and inside this beautiful country house hotel. Time, and the weather, stopped us exploring it in full but with so many options for wedding photography this is why I think it makes a great wedding venue. You could spend days and weeks photographing the same wedding there and you would still be discovering interesting new places to explore.
The day was not all about me, the wedding photographer, though. We had a brilliant team who were all happy to give up their time and share their skills and talent. In no particular order here is the who’s who for our styled photoshoot, go and check them out, they are all amazing!
