Hannah and Sean’s Merewood Country House Wedding
An intimate wedding in the Lake District
Introducing Hannah-peg and Sean-peg, the newest members of the Jaye-Peg Collective, who were married at Merewood Country House overlooking Windermere in the Lake District.
Hannah and Sean chose Merewood for a small, intimate wedding with their closest family around them. Everyone could stay together at the hotel, the views across the Lake District are rather lovely and, perhaps most importantly, nobody was required to run up the driveway.
More on that in a minute.
A Small Wedding at Merewood Country House
If you haven’t been to Merewood Country House before, it sits above Windermere at the end of a long, sweeping driveway.
And when I say long, I mean long.
If you walk up and down it a couple of times a day, it’s probably a very good way of getting your exercise goals in. Hannah and Sean sensibly chose not to do this. Why would you on your wedding day?
Maybe next time I’m photographing a wedding at Merewood I can organise a race with the wedding team. I’m sure I could persuade a few people to see who can get from the bottom of the driveway to the top quickest.
It could be the beginning of a new Merewood wedding tradition that absolutely nobody will ever take part in.
Just a thought.
An Intimate Lake District Wedding Overlooking Windermere
Running up hills aside, Merewood is a rather brilliant setting for a smaller Lake District wedding.
Hannah and Sean kept their day intimate, celebrating with their closest family and having everyone together in one place. Merewood gave them exactly what they wanted: a beautiful setting, fantastic food and those rather impressive views towards Windermere and the surrounding fells.
Small weddings like this also work perfectly with the way I photograph.
My approach to wedding photography is effortless, natural and authentic. I want couples to spend their wedding day actually enjoying themselves rather than disappearing for hours for photographs. Things can be unscripted and unhurried, with plenty of space for everything that happens naturally, and a little bit of direction from me when it’s useful.
Hannah and Sean were able to spend their day with the people who mattered to them, while I concentrated on telling the story of it.
Wedding Photos at Windermere
We did, however, sneak away from Merewood for a little while.
One of the advantages of having your wedding here is having Windermere pretty much on the doorstep, so we popped down to the lake for some couple photos.
I got the drone out and did a bit of droning on a jetty.
I also flew the drone to take some photos.
There is something particularly lovely about seeing the Lake District from above, and the jetty gave us the opportunity to create something a little different while still keeping everything natural and very much about Hannah and Sean.
No elaborate posing. No turning the wedding into a photoshoot. Just the three of us heading down to the lake, having a laugh and making some rather lovely wedding photos while we were there.
By the time we got back to Merewood I had also fully converted Sean, a self-confessed petrolhead, to how brilliant EVs are.
Definitely true that last bit.
Honest.
Natural Wedding Photography at Merewood Country House
One of my favourite things about photographing weddings at Merewood is the variety you can get without needing to turn the photography into a major expedition.
There’s the house itself, the grounds, the Lake District landscape surrounding it and, of course, Windermere just down the road.
The driveway doesn’t count as being just down the road. Even though it is quite long. You have to get in the car and drive down the actual road to get there. Takes about 5–10 minutes. Popping down to Windermere that is, not going down the driveway. Unless you’re walking down the driveway.
I might have mentioned that earlier.
That means we can make the most of the location while keeping your wedding photography unscripted and unhurried. If the light is lovely or you fancy heading down to the lake, brilliant. If you’re having far too much fun with your guests and would rather stay exactly where you are, that’s also brilliant.
Your wedding shouldn’t revolve around my camera.
I’m there to photograph your day, your way.

Hannah’s hair and makeup was by Fi Farrelly Bridal Beauty, who also did her mum’s makeup. Hannah wanted something soft and natural that still felt like her, and Fi absolutely nailed the brief.
Wedding Flowers
The flowers were created by Made in Flowers in Kendal, with gorgeous purples and greens and a natural, wildflower feel running through the day.
Wedding Cake
Their cake came from The Icing on the Cake, Kendal, fitting perfectly with the simple and elegant feel Hannah and Sean had chosen for their wedding.
