What is Lifestyle Photography?

Lifestyle photography is a genre of photography that aims to capture candid and authentic moments of everyday life. Making use of the natural settings and environments that we have in abundance in the Lakes District and Cumbria, and that are familiar to the people being photographed. Unlike traditional portrait photography, which may involve more posed and formal shots, lifestyle photography seeks to document real-life situations, interactions, emotions, and experiences.

In the Lake District and Cumbria a lifestyle photography photoshoot typically involves photos of you interacting with, and enjoying, the natural beauty of the region. All while enjoying your time on your relaxed photoshoot session.

A brief guide to the Northern Lake District and West Cumbria

Cockermouth

The history of Cockermouth dates back to Roman times and was established as a market town in the early thirteenth century. This Gem Town was also the birthplace of William and Dorothy Wordsworth. Cockermouth (or ‘mouth of the Cocker’) developed at the confluence of the Rivers Cocker and Derwent. The Cocker’s name comes from the Celtic word “Kukrã” meaning the crooked one. There are a number of great locations in Cockermouth to meet your Family Photographer, for your Lifestyle Photography. Harris Park offers many winding, tree lined footpaths with easy access to the River Cocker. Nearby is the old railway line, now a footpath that runs through the centre of town. There is also the Memorial Gardens alongside with River Derwent, with views of Cockermouth Castle near Mill Race.

Crummock Water

Situated between Loweswater and Buttermere, Crummock Water is approximately 8 miles from Cockermouth. Grassmoor is on the west of the lake and the fells of Mellbreak are on the east. The River Cocker starts here flowing towards Cockermouth where it meets the River Derwent. Crummock Water is owned by the National Trust. There are a number of great locations alongside Crummock Water for your Family Photography, or to meet your Lifestyle Photographer. There are two small hotels in Buttermere, The Bridge Hotel and the Buttermere Court Hotel, formally known as the Fish Inn as mentioned in Alfred Wainwright’s guide books. You can easily walk around Buttermere from the footpath that circumvents the lake. This makes for a great place for a Family Photo Walk with your Lifestyle Photographer. From the National Trust car park in the village it is about a 10 minute walk to the waters edge.
