The Lodore Falls Hotel Wedding of Becky and Michael

Weddings are like buses. No they’re not, weddings at some venues are like buses. Actually neither wedings nor wedding venues are anything like buses at all. The point that I’m trying to make is that you barely visit a wedding venue at all for 12 months or so and then all of a sudden your there 27 times over a six month period. Like waiting for bus, nothing for ages and then they all come at once.

Just to reiterate though weddings and wedding venues are definitely not like buses. They are categorically un-bus-like but are almost certainly wedding-like, if you catch my drift. I’ll be honest I’m not entirely sure what my drift was so if you understood any of that please send me a message to knock some metaphorical sense into my brain. One thing that most definitely was a wedding was Becky and Mike’s day at Lodore Falls Hotel and Spa. You have to add the “hotel and spa” bit, I’m pretty sure it’s a legal requirement.

In early December I was back in Borrowdale Valley at Lodore Falls for Becky and MIchael’s wedding. And it was wet. Very Wet. A winter wedding in the Lake District on the tail end of some stormy weather didn’t stop us from having a blast and getting the outdoor wedding photos that they both wanted either. Becky and Michael had planned a small wedding with just their closet family and friends in attendance. Small wedding are a lot of fun to photograph because you really get chance to include everyone in what you’re doing and also get to know them all a little, as opposed to being too focussed on just your couple. It’s also much easier to organise group photos with less people, especially when it’s quite wet outside. Inside the conservatory at Lodore Falls there is loads of space to make use of for the obligatory group photos as well as there being room for me to move around for some candids too. We even spread out into one of the lounges at one point. for some of Becky and Michael’s couple photos. I mean why not? It would be rude not to in a fabulous setting such as Lodore Falls. Don’t forget to include the “hotel and spa” bit.

On a dark and gloomy day when you’re inside for most of it, your wedding photography skills really get challenged and I’m always happy to make use of flash and continuous light to get the photos that I need for my couples. You can never shy away from using all of the tools at your disposal, and I do love the chance to play around with a little off camera flash, and push the more technical aspects of being a wedding photographer. However we also managed photos outside for Becky and Michael’s confetti throw as well as a few more couple photos. The only we didn’t manage to get were some family photos of them both with their daughter, Mya, who moved incredibly quickly and barely stayed still for the whole time I was there! Although to respect Becky and MIchael’s wishes I have only included a few carefully select photos of the children at the wedding.
