The Dalston Hall Wedding of Amy and Andy

Who wants to see some wedding photos from Amy and Andy’s August wedding at Dalston Hall?

Anyone?

Bueller?

Oh well. Here they are anyway. I guess I’d better add some details about the awesomeness of their wedding day, how we all laughed until our bellies hurt, and about how much the day was full of joy and laughter and we just had so much fun. All while I was able to capture some of the best photos of my wedding photographer career.

Only that’s not what happened.

With everything planned to perfection, and everyone ready for what promised to be a brilliant wedding, what do you do when the bride is not well? I mean really not well, as in very ill indeed. So much so that at one point the wedding ceremony was even doubtful. However, Amy refused to be beaten, put her brave face on and faced the day like the absolute legend that she is. No pesky little sickness bug was going to ruin her wedding day.

Dalston Hall is beautiful inside and out and is also one of those wedding venues where you could spend all day photographing a couple and never run out of interesting places for their wedding photographs. As the day progressed, Amy was happy enough to be eased into different things, such as confetti photos, group photos, and her’s and Andy’s couple photos. She was even happy to have a lie-down for an overhead drone photo that I wanted to capture for them too. There’s nothing quite like a top-down, bird’s-eye-view photo of a bride and groom when you’re at an historic wedding venue, such as Dalston Hall.

Even though Amy and Andy’s wedding day may not have gone to plan, it didn’t detract from a brilliant wedding. I always plan my wedding photography bookings as much as possible, not to stage-manage my couples’ big day but to be prepared for unforeseen eventualities. And when that happens, you just need to ask your couples to let you know what they are happy and comfortable doing, and that’s what you work with, trying to get the best photos out of the day as you possibly can. In the end I think we did okay, and looking back at the photos, all I see are a couple enjoying their wedding day and also some of the best wedding photos that I’ve taken this year.

Amy and Andy’s day wouldn’t have been possible without all of the hard work from Yasmine and the team at Dalston Hall, the professionalism and empathy of the registrars from Cumberland Council, my second photographer Peter and these brilliant suppliers –
