The Lodore Falls Hotel Wedding of Ian and Laura
Weddings are great; I mean like really really great. They’re not anything like a half-hearted:
– “How’s your coffee?”
– “It’s great, thanks.”
They are more of a:
– “OMG! This is like the best day ever!”
That’s about the right kind of “great” for a wedding.
Autumnal weddings are great too. It’s my favourite time of year for a wedding. You can still get nice warm days, but it gets darker earlier in the evening, which opens up a whole new opportunity for twilight photography. Often, before your couple have even done their first dance. There’s no hanging around until late evening for it to get dark in September.
Then there’s the changing colours as leaves start to fall and the ground is awash with deep yellows and burnt oranges. Colours that just look gorgeous in wedding photographs, especially during golden hour. Who doesn’t want their wedding photographer to get a photo of them walking along a footpath strewn with leaves, a lake or mountain in the background, and hazy sun shining through the trees? We can do all of that in the Lake District in the autumn. It’s my favourite season for a wedding, if I haven’t already mentioned it.
Ian and Laura’s wedding day was at Lodore Falls (or Lodore Falls Hotel and Spa to give it it’s full title). We were really lucky with the weather too. Rain had been forecast for early afternoon, but it wasn’t until early evening that it started to fall. This meant that the ceremony could be outside at the gazebo (yay!), and the moody overcast sky gave the perfect light for Ian and Laura’s wedding photos. On a day like theirs, I have to work quickly to ensure that I make the most of the available daylight for confetti photos, group photos, and the all-important couple photos, which we did over by the lakeside of Derwentwater. When the rain did start to fall, and it came down heavy, we went dramatic for an off-camera flash photo in the darkness, and yes, I did get wet, but it was so worth it. A dramatic photo of a bride and groom under an umbrella on a bridge while it’s raining heavily is the result. It’s one of those photos were you really need to trust that your wedding photographer knows what they’re doing to capture the photos perfectly.
The hugest of congratulations to Ian and Laura, we all ha d a brillinat day and I hope you’ve been enjoying looking through your wedding photos.
